7 Days Tarangire, Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti (Kogatende) & Ngorongoro Crater Midrange Safari

Safari Overview

This 7-day midrange safari is carefully designed to follow the movement of wildlife across the Serengeti ecosystem while maintaining a comfortable and well-paced travel structure. The itinerary begins in Tarangire National Park, continues into Central Serengeti for one night, extends north to the Kogatende region for two nights, returns to Central Serengeti for two additional nights, and concludes with a game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater before returning to Arusha.

By combining Central and Northern Serengeti, this program increases seasonal opportunities to observe the Great Migration near the Mara River while preserving strong year-round predator viewing in the central plains. Midrange lodges and tented camps are selected based on location, reliability, and service standards, ensuring both accessibility to prime wildlife areas and consistent comfort.

Day 1

Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Your safari begins with a morning departure from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, approximately a two to three-hour drive. Tarangire is characterized by open savannah, ancient baobab trees, and the Tarangire River, which sustains wildlife throughout the year.

Game drives focus along the river system, where elephants gather in notable numbers, particularly during the dry season. Buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and various antelope species are regularly observed. Lions are often located resting under acacia trees, while leopards occasionally appear in riverine woodland.

After a picnic lunch inside the park and continued afternoon game viewing, you proceed to your midrange lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2

Tarangire – Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you depart for Serengeti National Park, driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey transitions from highland terrain into expansive grasslands as you approach the Serengeti ecosystem.

Upon entering Central Serengeti, game viewing begins immediately. This region supports year-round wildlife density due to permanent water sources and stable prey populations. Lions are frequently seen on rocky kopjes, cheetahs patrol open plains, and leopards are often found near river systems. Large herds of wildebeests and zebras are common across the savannah.

Arrive at your midrange tented camp or lodge in Central Serengeti for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Central Serengeti – Northern Serengeti (Kogatende)

After breakfast, you begin a game drive northward toward the Kogatende region of Northern Serengeti. Wildlife sightings continue throughout the journey as you pass through varied habitats.

Northern Serengeti is particularly significant between July and October, when large herds of wildebeests and zebras gather near the Mara River during the Great Migration. River crossing attempts attract predators and offer dramatic wildlife interactions. Outside migration season, the area remains productive with resident populations of lions, elephants, giraffes, and antelope species.

By late afternoon, you arrive at your midrange camp in Kogatende for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Full Day in Central SerengetiFull Day in Northern Serengeti – Kogatende

This day is dedicated to exploring the Northern Serengeti. Morning and afternoon game drives focus on the Mara River and surrounding plains.

During migration months, you may witness herd movements, river crossings, and concentrated predator activity. The region is also known for large lion prides and hyena clans. Outside peak migration season, the area offers quieter game viewing with strong resident wildlife numbers.

A picnic lunch is served inside the park to maximize time in the field. Return to camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Northern Serengeti – Central Serengeti

Day 6

Full Day in Central Serengeti

This full day in Central Serengeti allows further exploration of wildlife-rich zones. Predator activity remains consistent, with lions, leopards, and cheetahs regularly observed. Elephant herds, buffalo, giraffes, and numerous antelope species contribute to the region’s ecological stability.

The flexibility of a full-day game drive allows your guide to adjust routes according to recent wildlife movements and seasonal patterns. After a picnic lunch and extended afternoon viewing, you return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Central Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, you depart Serengeti and drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, you descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive.

The crater floor supports a dense population of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and hyenas. It is also one of the most reliable locations in Tanzania to observe the endangered black rhino. The enclosed ecosystem allows concentrated wildlife viewing within a relatively compact area.

After a picnic lunch inside the crater, you ascend to the rim and begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon where your safari with WAZO SAFARIS concludes.
